Advice on a plethora of codes...
Hello,
I am new to Mini Coopers. I am trying to fix up and sell my father's 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman that has been sitting for 5 years. It has 110K miles. He said it had overheating problems when it last ran, but that was quite an understatement. It had a lot of problems, many I'm not going to talk about here
I got a box of parts from him when I picked up the car, and for the most part, I cannot tell where they came from or whether they were good replacements, or just crud you might find on eBay. I used them in this repair work. Here's what I have done to get the car running:
- I installed a new thermostat housing he had. When I tried to plug in the temp sensor wire (the one that goes straight up & down), it wouldn't fit well and I found it had the wrong connector, then I noticed there was a second new temp sensor in the box. That one plugged in correctly, and I used it instead.
- When I did the above work, I also installed a new crossover pipe (what a pain).
- On the belt-side of the engine, I installed a new Water Pump and Water Pump Pulley that was advertised as OEM from Pelican Parts (another pain).
- I installed a new coolant reservoir too.
The coolant system is now circulating and has no leaks that I can see. The car had oil leaks as well. So, I have also replaced:
- Oil pan gasket and cleaned the pan - it had sludge in the bottom.
- Front Seal & Harmonic Balance
- Dayco Serpentine Belt
- Refilled with Mobil 1 and put on a new Mann filter.
I cleared all the existing codes and went for a 10 mile test drive. It ran good, in my opinion, but the check engine light came back. I am now trying to resolve the check engine light and the codes I am seeing.
P1497 - This one is red in my software as "Current Fault"
The rest of these are listed as Pending Faults:
P0117
P013E
P0340
P0341
P0342
P173B
I have purchased a new Bosch Camshaft Position Sensor to try to clear up those related codes (P0340, P0341, P0342)
I don't understand why the car is complaining about the temp sensor being "low" (P0117)
I have been reading about the P1497 and it seems to relate to air leaks somewhere? Are there common things I need to look for?
I have not studied P013E and P173B yet.
Thank you,
James
