Default brake warning light

2011 Cooper S Clubman

today i got a RED warning light up thru the steering wheel that says "BRAKE"

i have seen this b4. it usually means i drove away with the emergency brake engaged.
today. . .that was not the case.
my next guess was the fluid was low.
again. . .that was not the case. . .
it does not show as any codes on my 2 bit scanner.

what sort of issues is this light designed to tell me about?
where were sensors rigged up?
what am i looking for?
as of now, the brakes seem to be operating normally.

we have a drive planned for early next week up to Zion National Park.
so this timing is not optimal.

thx.

D~~~!

Zion! What a magical place, took the family there several times. Regarding your question, It might be indicating it's time to change your brakes or if the pads are still good then it might be a bad brake sensor. Both of which are very easily fixed. My brake sensor just popped up last night as a matter of fact. I know it's not the brakes because i just changed them in the back and the front along with aftermarket brake sensors. So in my case i'm pretty sure its the sensors that are garbage. Lesson learned, don't buy non OEM parts for these cars unless you like doing the same job a couple weeks later.

thx for the input.
glad u got ur issue cleared up.
i used aftermarket pads and sensors and have not had any troubles.
the dash lite did turn out to be the fluid level in the mastercylinder. i had plenty of fluid in it for the brakes to work. but when i filled it all the way to the brim, the dash lite went off.
i guess there is a sensor in there somewhere? not a bit of trouble since then.
