2003 mini which PS hose goes bad
#2
I'm not sure about the 2003...but my 2006....the hose usually does not cause power steering failure....
Mini techs told me its usually because the fan is destroyed because its so low to the ground.
My hose leaks and you can put a hose clamp on the upper part to secure.
Not sure if you can put a hose clamp on the bottom where the hose connects.
I would think you can..
And make sure the fluid is full. Check it ONCE A WEEK !!
Check ALL fluids once a week.....
CHF Fluid
Mine is VERY slow leak....so I will replace when / if it gets worse.
Good Luck

First, is your '03 a Cooper or Cooper S?
The power steering pump on the gen 1 MINI is one of those items that seems to have a bad reputation and it seems that this is one of the more common items to fail on the car. Yes, the power steering lines are also known to leak as well. Check the return and suction lines. #1 and #11 on the diagram below (diagram is from an '03 Cooper S and the lines are the same parts that work for a Cooper non-s).
#11 is the return line HERE
#1 is the suction hose HERE

and the fan is at the link above, just scroll down.
I'd also recommend, if you haven't already, to check and make sure your MINI qualifies for the power steering pump recall. You can call your local dealer and they can let you know if it does.
