2004 Mini Passenger Side Window
Hi -
Have a 2004 mini that the passenger side window does not work.
What are the common things to check for? (i.e. motor, and/or stripped gears)
Can I buy the parts and is this something I could replace myself?
Thanks, Tom

Motor and window regulator are the common causes , check if the motor is getting voltage and reversing voltage ... If it is and not moving remove the motor and see if it moves , if it doesn't move bad motor if it does move then it could be the regulator

Bad window
The power regulators, motor/lift mechanism on the earlier Mini is just a bad device. You can replace it with a salvage part and get the eventual same result. You can buy one "NOS" New Old Stock and get the same result, eventually. Aske the dealer what is the latest year model you can use to replace from and you might stand a chance of getting a component that has been redesigned and works as you wouild expect.
OR
Take yoiur hand a strike the door panel jsut below the door handel and you may find that it will start working again. I have to do this about every six months. No amount of investigation will help. It si not a wiring or connector issue it is a bad design INSIDE of the regulator motor/control mechanism. Since youi can't disassemble it you can't troiuble shoot it. Just beat the snot out of it when it acts up.
Not very scientific but I have been all the way up and down this road with lots of the TYPICAL failures and you really need to accept that BMW made a lot of poor judgements in component qualtity up to about 06, then it got a little better.
Happy banging!

Thanks for advise. I am never opposed to a good whack every now and then if it gets the results I am looking for :-)
I will also contact the dealer on what the latest model regulator / motor I can use in mine.
Thanks to all who replied with their advise.
