I have a 2004 Mini Cooper with 127K and the transmission grenaded on the way home from work the other day. No warning. Just driving along and then *clunk* and a trail of shrapnel and tranny fluid down the street.

I found one in a junk yard with 15K miles on it for $2K and that's the best I have found so far.

What I'm wondering is, are there any other options other than a 2004 Manual 5 speed? Can I interchange any other years or a 6 speed? Looking for the best option under $3K.

 

I think 03/06 are the same tranny wise unsure if the 6 speed is swapable..
