Default 5-speed tranny

Are 2002 R50 5-sp tranny's rebuildable, and if not, where is a reliable vendor for a new one?

I have an '03 and I was having intermittent problems getting the tranny into reverse. The dealer replaced the transmission under warranty. The short answer to your question is yes, they are rebuildable. The dealership service departments find it more expedient to swap the tranny out and let someone else rebuild it rather than spending time on diagnosis and repair themselves.

One place I found online that does transmissions for Coopers is Mini Transmission.com (http://www.minitransmission.com). I know nothing about this business, nor have I talked to anyone who has used them.

Default R50 tranny replacement

I'm having my '02 R50 tranny replaced at Eurosport in Plano, TX. I'll let you guys(male & female) know how this works out. They are also replacing the clutch/pressure plate and the flywheel while they are in there for $3860.00. Yeah it's a lot of $$, but I couldn't buy a comparable car for for that price. I've priced trannies and the other stuff, and this price is definitely in line considering there is $1k of labor involved
