2003 Mini Cooper Base Model Almost 198,000 miles

Had radiator and thermostat replaced 1 year ago. About 2 weeks ago had the power steering cooling fan replaced. Just after getting it back, noticed what sounded like a "dragging" noise and the battery light came on. The serpentine belt was shredded.

We have changed the belt and the tensioner - but it shredded another belt, and this time it ran hot. Now it is making a sound like something rattling around. It is louder when the AC is on and when you rev the rpm up to about 1100. Other than that it is intermittent.

Need help on figuring out what to try next - and if it's worth it... I love my little guy.

 

Found the problem... it's the crankshaft pulley. I've researched it and found that with all the issues they had with this part, they've changed it. I also see some that are lighter weight that say they will work.

Has anyone tried one of the lighter weight pulleys (Alta)? Thoughts on which way to go?

Help would be appreciated.
