Default Instrument Panel lights won't turn off

Hi,
A rainy day here in Boston. When I got home and shut off the car the instrument panel wouldn't turn off. I noticed when I open the door, it bings as if reminding me to turn off the lights or that I have left the key in the ignition. I started the car again and drove it around the block, nothing changed. I turned the lights on and off, and I flipped most of the switches.

Any thoughts short of disconnecting the battery?

I have a 2003 Cooper S

check the relay that controls the lights might have fused or a bad light switch

make sure your fuse box is dry and check wire for corrosion. Ya probably way late on this answer. Sunroof drains like to spring leaks and ofcoarse they run inside the car and straight down to the electrical.

check the back of your fuse panel for corrosion, check relays for the headlights and possibly your headlight switch.. cant say for sure if its any of these but its what comes to mind at the moment. I dont know all to mutch about the headlight setup on these minis its different from what im use to but if i have any other ideas ill jot them down.
