My 2002 Mini Cooper base model with barely 90,000 miles is leaking oil thru the oil pan gasket, power steering fluid thru 3 hoses, including one that is pressurized and coolant thru the thermostat. The control arm bushing is on its last legs, the front upper strut supports are domed (not sure if I will fix) and the Air bag light is on AGAIN.
I realize these are all the rubber parts giving out after 11 years, but I was wondering about the experience others have had with early minis....
If I fix everything, is it just going to be something else...
If I say goodbye I really want a another used mini, but the prices seem crazy.
I am not in a position to do the work myself, I do not trust my repairs on something I will drive at highway speed and I need a reliable car..... I am taking the dealer estimates..(first 3 items listed add to $2633 and those are just the leaks)...to other shops to see if the price comes down...
Advice? Thoughts? It is the first car I have ever loved

 

We have a 2002 with 107k and have no major issues. There are a few rust bubbles under the taillights and I have bushing replacement on my list this summer.

I would find a reputable independent in your area that specializes in German brands. I would never go to the dealer with a 2002. Where are you located? I may be able to find a good shop in your area.
