Default 1600 mini boiling up

Hi first time posting on here, but am after a bit of advice. My daughter has a 2004 r53 1600 cooper and it is giving me a headache. I have recently put a new rad, temp sensor and cooling fan on it and bled the system. However she went out in it the other day and hadn't gone more than 3 miles before the temp gauge was in the red.
I have today done a compression test and got the following results.
Cylinder 1 = 15 bar
Cylinder2 = 17 bar
Cylinder3 = 17 bar
Cylinder4 = 16.5 bar.
These readings seem high to me, I was expecting about 9 bar. Also I have a concern that cylinder 1 is 2 bar down on the others.Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Dunc
