Angry 2006 Mini R53 - Coolant Leak at Radiator Elbow

On the stock radiators there are two plastic elbows screwed onto the radiator where the in and out coolant hoses are attached. I had a leak on the bottom one and could not get it to seal so I ended up just buying a new radiator and replacing it. Now, after replacing the belt tensioner and apparently not being careful enough while jacking the engine up and down, I have upset the delicate seal on the top elbow. I took it off and there is a rubber o-ring that I didn't notice previously. It was in good shape, no visible cracks or damage to the plastic elbow. I cleaned up the 0-ring and re-installed everything - still leaking. I tried various degrees of tightening with no effect.

Has anyone figured out the magic trick for making these little plastic toy elbows seal?

And another question, has anyone found a replacement radiator that does not use these plastic, screw-on fittings?

Thanks.

Tom

Thanks for the info/response. I tried sealing it with water pump sealant and will see today after it has cured a bit longer if it holds. Either way I will probably order one of the metal radiators from you since you took the time to respond. Those plastic inlet/outlets are going to be a continuing problem that I would like to eliminate. Thanks.

The water pump sealant worked on the radiator leak for a few minutes, then started weeping again. It is drive-able now anyway. Ordered the radiator you recommended just now. Thanks for the recommendation.
