Exclamation power steering failure question.

hi. my power steering pump went out. should i replace the fan while replacing the pump? the pump is leaking, so i know it's bad, don't know about the fan.
it is a "while you're there" kinda thing?" i am paying a mechanic to do the work. he quoted 3 hours. would replacing the fan add much time?
thanks
andie

Most buy the remanufactured pump and I believe they replace the fan as part of the rebuild

Default fan is easy

The power steering fan is held on by two nuts accessable by just reaching under the front end.I did mine with out even jacking it up,just the two nuts and the wiring plug. The labor is minimal and could be done anytime by anyone with the right size wrench so I don't see any reason to it replace as long as it's working.(This applies to first generation cars, don't know if it's different for 2007 and newer)

Default Power Steering Pump Goodish News

I called MINI for the price of replacing pump and fan, they wanted $1700.00.
I found a brand new pump and fan on ebay for $599.00 (same pump MINI uses!)
and then found a mechanic to put it in for me. He charged me $189.00.
Quite a savings over MINI!!!!

Good deal! The pump alone is usually about 600 bucks.Labor was very reasonable too.
