power steering noise (not the normal one...)
Hi all;
I have a 2004 Cooper S with about 75K. I know that the power steering is supposed to make noise, but in the last few days (in cold Chicago weather, just for context), a new noise has arisen. It's louder than the normal whine, and seems to be in a slightly different area, but it occurs along the same parameters, i.e. increasing in volume and pitch as the wheel is turned. I haven't yet checked the fluid, because frankly, I'm not sure where to check that (I didn't see it in the manual). Any help would be appreciated.

RE: power steering noise (not the normal one...)
Have you checked the level of your power steering fluid reservior? Also check the hoses, their could be a leak or a break in your hoses somewhere. Probably the best way to check it, is to life the car and look under it. The other issue, could be that your power steering pump is dying, and needs to be replace. I would take it to a Mini Service tech and have them look at it.
