Using coolant

Using coolant
I have been noticeing that I am using coolant. The engine does not overheat, it's just that the cooalnt level goes to the bottom of the reservoir. I fill it up, and it disappears again. Is something wrong? Do I have a radiator cap problem?

RE: Using coolant
Yes, something is wrong. No need for panic though. It isn't the end of the world. Take it to a radiator shop and have them check it out. It might be a radiator cap, but it could be a lot of things too. Are there any other symptoms accompanying the problem? Like fluid on the ground (leaky water pump), or a smell coming from the heater (leaky heater core). One thing they do these days is check the coolant for hydrocarbons. If it doesn't contain hydrocarbons that would rule out a blown head gasket or cracked head, which is about as bad of a problem that it could be.

you all are making this out to be a big deal!!!! check the top of the trans. if you see a little puddle of dried coolant then you need to replace the thermostat and housing. coolant will also leak from the waterpump. pull down the splash shield and if oolant pous out you need a waterpump. of just pressure test the system and cover all of your basis.
