Just purchased a 2015 Mini Roadster, and love it!! I noticed that when the key is removed from the ignition, the steering wheel is free to turn from full left to full right. Has anyone else noted that there is no steering wheel lock??

I want to tow our Roadster behind our motorhome, so this is a really nice feature for me!!

 

Hasn't anyone determined if their steering wheel locks when the key is removed?? I just want some confirmation that this is really the fact and that my wheel won't lock "sometimes". I have never had a car that the steering wheel didn't lock when the key was removed in I don't want to think how many years. This is important to me as I do plan to tow the car behind our motorhome.

 

Apparently no one cares whether or not their steering wheel locks when the key is removed. If however anyone does have a little interest, I have now towed my 2015 Roadster about 230 miles successfully and the steering wheel on at least my car does not lock. For me this is a wonderful feature.

 

Early 2007 R56 MINI had a lock. Then they did away with it.

I know it's 4 years later, but tonight I was searching for the exact question you had, except our mini is a 2010! We want to tow it behind our motorhome and we were trying to find out if it "officially" doesn't have a steering wheel lock.

So, I just wanted you to know how much I appreciated that you came back with your answer, a whole year after your original post.
