I bought my MINI on December 26, 2008 and have 7500+ miles on it. (mostly highway miles) The sales person said my computer was set for service at 15,000 miles, although others may get 18,000 miles. I notice that my car now says service is set for 10,000. It this because I am putting a lot of miles on it too quickly? And is it necessarily a bad thing?

Mine shows miles remaining till service is due (Countsdown) unsure if yours is doing the same ... And it's seems to vary by type of driving , long highway drives barely move the speedo

 

Makes sense that it's counting down to service. Still, is the criticism that I am putting too many miles too quickly on my car a valid argument? I bought my car in VA and drove it home to New Orleans and then Dallas within a 36-hour period of time. That according to my "expert" friends is a huge no-no. In addition, it was 20 degrees when I left VA and 75 degrees when I arrived in New Orleans. That is the other gripe that I am hearing -- that the car can't go between extreme temperatures in such a short period of time. All of this sounds pretty lame to me but am willing to listen to reason.
