'08 Mini Cooper Convertible transmission
Hi, my automatic transmission on my '08 convertible is blown at 55,000ish miles. I see that there was a class action law suit a few years ago on the cvt automatic transmissions used from 2004-2009, but the deadline to file a claim expired in 2014. Wondering if anybody has run into transmission problems with these years more recently and what they did? The dealer says $8800 to replace (I paid $16,500!), and my mechanic says he can put in the same for $7,500 or the best used transmission he can find now is another '08 with 48,000 miles for about $4,000 all in... which if those years are the years in issue, don't know that really solves for anything but buying me another year or two... Just curious what others have done, trying to explore all my options. I love the car, have had for 3.5 years with no issues before this, still owe about $4,000 on it, and would certainly prefer to keep it if at all possible.
Update: has anyone tried replacing one of these flawed transmissions with a manual?
