2015 Mini Cooper - FOB Key - Allow drive when outside of car
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, bought a 2015 Mini a few years ago and loving the drive ever since.
I just have a question about FOB key. Yesterday, my engine started and I drove off with my key on top of my car roof. The key had fallen and I did not get a warning alert. The whole situation ended up with a car tow and then an order of a new $600 key from dealership. I'm a little frustrated that I could drive off with the key outside of my car and even worse, there was no alert. Even though the key was at a close proximity. I feel that it's just not right. A few people whom I spoke to were surprised by it as well.
I'm wondering if anyone had experience or thoughts about this?
Does anyone know what other cars do the same thing?
Lastly, is there no way for consumer to program their own FOB key? $600 is ridiculously priced IMO.
Thanks
DT
