Auto Climate control fresh air ?

Auto Climate control fresh air ?
Hello
I'm a new owner of a 07 S coupe with auto climate control. I can not get the recirulate icon to go to fresh air. using the auto or manual modes AC on or off . i would like to have fresh air come through the vents when I have the sun roof opened. There is a button with the little car for recirulate when i press it nothing happens.In the Om it says if i drive through some bad air it will go to recirc by itslef. However there still should be a way to overide it .
