Default brake pad sensor light

Does anyone know how to reset the brake pad sensor light.
On my daughter's 04' MINI Cooper there are brake pad sensors on the drivers side front brake and the passenger side rear brake. The yellow brake pad light was on, so we replaced the rear brake pads and reused the same sensor. One dealer told me that to reset the light you had to hold the ignition key in the second position (acc. position) for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. That didn't work. Another dealer told me that you had to replace the sensor and then hold the key in the acc. position.
I'm not sure that I trust the dealers. They want $22.25 for one sensor. Expensive - Like everything else on theses cars (ex. $22/litre for ATF). Does anyone know - must you replace the sensor to reset that light? If not, how do you do it?

You'll need new sensors, they're one time use.

Here's what I learned: The brake pad sensors cannot be reset once the light has gone on. You have to replace them. However, you can disable the sensor and eliminate the light by pulling the little clip off of the brake pad, cutting the wire to that clip and tying together the two thin wires inside and taping the connection up. Then hold the ignition key in the acc. position for about 30 seconds.
