A/C light blinking
Any idea why my A/C light may be blinking? When the engine is hot and I turn on the A/C my light just starts blinking. I have now cut the A/C off because I do not want to break anything.
My air conditioning button had a flashing light and a horrible sound came from under the bonnet when it was flashing, immediately after which the a/c would fail.
Calls to the "local" dealer and to other shops all had the same recommendation: recharge the a/c system for $125 - $150.
Well, I thought, I can do that for less. But the Bentley Service Manual was no help. The manual basically says DON'T DO IT!
The can said to check the system pressure before loading. I did and, guess what? The system was up to pressure! Damn, I thought, there must be another problem.
So, I put it aside and set about changing the oil. While under the car, I noticed quite a bit of dirt around the power steering fan. Sure enough, it was bound up some. Turned, but not freely. After a little bit of effort, I cleaned it out and it spun free.
Returning to the topside, I checked the fuse panel under the bonnet. There it was! A blown 5V fan fuse!
I replaced the fuse and the A/C has been fine since.
Now, I can't say that your problem may be as simple to fix as mine was.
I can say that if your A/C is not frigid but on the fritz, check the fan fuses.
