My wife's Mini Cooper S (oct. 2003)stereo switches on and off randomly (without
touching on/off button) can happen when ignition is on or off: travelling or not. I have
even removed the fuse and it still works!! (and still turns itself on
and off). i have tried disconnecting the battery overnight in the hope that it would reset but it needless to say didn't.

Any suggestions - short of selling the annoying thing.

I think thats a bad ground. also some times people will not connect a ground at all to the chassis of the radio and rely on the antennae to provide the ground but if its rusty around there or maybe an aftermarket antennae it may not be properly installed. try just running a wire directly from that little nut and bolt on the back to a solid ground. you may want to scratch the surface of the car you are attaching ground.
