Expensive repairs! Is it Legit?
I wanted to run a question by this forum that im sure is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to minis. I took my 2007 Mini in for a check since the check engine light was on. This mechanic, who has great reviews for the most part, called back with the following:
"We came up with a fault code for the engine variable valve timing, it has adjustable valve timing to keep performances up to high speed and there is a problem with that system. Its controlled by oil and oil pressure and what we usually find is that the oil system needs to be flushed, a hot oil engine flush, change the oil and filter using full synthetic 5w30, and replacing the variable valve timing solenoid."
Anyways, i called back and he says after labor and tax that it would run me $770.00. Does this seem legit to you folks?
Thanks for any responses.

welcome to the new millennia.
With the way things cost nowadays it looks as though you got a fair deal. I wound up spending considerably more than that when dealing with my computer system.Going to the dealer where they quoted me over $7000 to get my car in just running shape. so what I did was I shopped around and found some pretty good local mechanics and I still had some money left over for other things.

I had the same original problem and took it to a mechanic that swore he knew how to replace it. Long story short, 5k out the door, he ended up subletting the car to the dealer because they cannot time the valves without the dealer...this was a 6 month process I ended up having to file with automotive beurau to help me. Be careful...
