Fan like sound?

Fan like sound?
Hello everyone! This is my posting on here so I hope I'm in the right section. My wife has a '08 Cooper and it has started to make a weird sound from the engine bay. When accelerating it almost sounds like a fan blade is hitting something? I've looked and can't see anything, so if that basic description sounds like a familiar problem please let me know. Thanks!
