Heat Shield....Turbo Cover??

Heat Shield....Turbo Cover??
Greetings. My first time here to post, but been lurking for some time. Just purchased a 2008 Clubman S with just 6700 miles on it. A real nice ride, and a perfect "used" MINI.
My question is this:
Under the hood, just behind the radiator is what I believe to be the Turbo? There is a pressed metal (looks like aluminum or Zinc coated metal) heat shield. This shield looks like it was pressed out and has a gap (ie: hole) at the bend that looks rather poorly made. It seems out of place for a well engineered auto.
My car has never been damaged, or repaired in any way. Is this the way it is supposed to look?
I did not drive the car to work today, but just noticed this as I was checking the oil this morning.
Thanks,
