Default Mini S Engine light

I thought I would start a new thread since I probably have to go to Charlotte for a service. I thought I would share the problem perhaps there is something I can do.

2007 mini S, 32K miles.

Last week when it was cold, the car didn't want to start. First time ever happened. I've had to hold the break pedal and give a little gas for it to stay idle. Shut it off, check the oil. The oil looked like it needed to be changed so I did change the oil on the same day. Came back, everything was working fine. The car starts normally. The next day, the Engine light came on. I don't know wether it has to do with the oil changing at this point. I use the middle grade gasoline.

What should I check or try to solve this problem? If I could, I would prefer be a self sufficient before I drive 2 hours to Charlotte.

Thank You. Any helps or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can get it scanned at advanced/Autozone ect and see if you can solve it yourself

running midgrade in an S is just asking for troubles PREMIUM ONLY!!!

You likely have a knock sensor going off / out of range

Bad Venge, I went to the Auto Zone and got the car scanned. Nothing came up. No codes. I guess my next step is the service dept.
