Default NAV system partially working?

yes, this is my first post... sorry guys. My Mini is my wife's car and it's been trouble free.

Our04 Cooper S has NAV. It worked until 1 month ago. The screen works, and it gives me my coordinates without a problem, but the DVD reader (under the passenger seat) may not be. The screen says "loading" all the time. I have ejected/inserted several times, and inspected the actual disc... seems okay.

is this common? Is it repairable? The "dealer" (a good term) says the repair is $2600 and includes the entire system. The car is worth $14k, so $2600 is probably not a good investment..haha

Any advice? No, I have not tried another DVD disc, but it's an option...

thanks in advance.

Default RE: NAV system partially working?

I have had a similar problem with my navigation system. The screen works but the disc is constently being spit out by the reader. Sometimes it works somtimes not I have a 2003 cooper s the dealer told me 260 to just take the seat out and diagnose the problem a portable navigation system cost less then this. I agree 2600 is a lot to invest in a car you may only keep another 5-8 years at most. I feel the same way. I have looked to see if you can purchase a new reader for the system and it doesnt seem to be available to purchase and install yourself. Technology uuggghh
