SUBJECT
Display Remains Black and DVD Navigation is Inoperative.
MODEL
Affected vehicles produced from 6/13/04 up to 12/15/04:
R50 (MINI Cooper) with DVD NAV computer (option 609)
R52 (MINI Cooper Convertible/MINI Cooper S Convertible) with DVD NAV computer (option 609)
R53 (MINI Cooper S) with DVD NAV computer (option 609)
SITUATION
The board monitor display remains black and the DVD navigation system is inactive when starting the vehicle at ambient temperatures below 37deg;F.
After the electronic units have warmed up all functions are available.
CAUSE
Problem in the DVD NAV computer at low ambient temperatures.
The board monitor remains dark because the NAV computer controls the graphic part for the display.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, replace the DVD NAV computer.
