Default Oil Changes

I recently bought a 2006 Mini. The oil change reminder came on. I took it to a local oil change place and they refused to service it. The technician said that after market filters caused oil leaks and burned up the engine. So I'm at a loss as to what to do? Do I need to stock up on Mini filters and take them with me? Should I only get it serviced at the service department? There is not a Mini dealer close (closest is 100 miles away), but there is a BMW dealer close. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'd have to wave a BS flag , I've used Napa Filters and never had a problem ...
I've used "Lube Stop" a local oil change place as well and they did a topflight job as well ...
Most places do not change the "O" ring with the filter, or cut/pinch it , THAT is the reason for the leak ...
I'd ask any local Mini Owners where they get their oil changed ...

I change my own filter too. I use Puralator filters. Not a big deal. That guy fed you a crock.
