Default Temperature gauge dips at speed

I am having an issue with my car’s temperature gauge.

I have a 2006 Mini One, it runs like a dream, it’s lowmileage for its age (70,000) but it has a quirk at the moment with thetemperature display.

When I am driving around town there’s no issue, the moment Iam driving on the motorway at speed the gauge dips to half way (halfway betweenthe middle temperature point and cold)

It drops down, then rectifies itself, then drops down againcontinually.

Once I am off the motorway and back to 40- 50mph, the gaugedoesn’t move.

Could this just be the sensor?
