Who made the mini cooper engine? I heard somewhere that it's made by Chevy?????? Is that at all possible?

 

I don't know about the diesels, or the older model engines (pre-2007), but the new gas engines are a Peugeot-BMW coop.

 

the R50-R53 was a dodge neon engine. the R55 and R56 are a Peugeot engine. if you look at a bare engine block for the R50-R53 you will see the mounting pionts for the neon accesories.

 

I feel relieved!!! I would not have bought my 08 if it was a neon engine!!!!!! Not at the price I paid. Peugeot...Reliable and higth quality as per past experiences, BMW even better.
Dodge!!! OMG not even with a 10 foot pole... Sorry that' s how I feel about american car engines.

 

Um, it's loosely based on the engine that's in the Neon... a Neon engine would not fit under the hood of a MINI. It's a Tritec engine which is a joint venture of BMW and Chrysler, it was designed and made specifically for the MINI (with other applications in the future that never happened) in a plant in Brazil that makes only this engine. There are no mounting points for Neon accessories, maybe additional points to mount things in future production models.

do a Google search on "prince engines" will answer all your questions,I can only say thank duck it was never touched by Chevy,never built a reliable small engine.look at the output from your prince engine especially if its an s,then look at how big a Chevy motor needs to be to deliver the same power.
