Hello everyone...
My name is Patrick, and with the growing popularity of this forum, and the others run under the auto forum universe ownership, i have been hired to help the current AFU staff. I just thought i should introduce myself, seeing as how i will be around alot from now on. :)

RE: New Admin

so do you drive a mini?

Patrick 04-11-2005 02:58 PM

RE: New Admin

very sadly... no i dont...i am a car enthusiast, and then some...when the current car on which i am paying is paid off, the mini is one of the cars at which i am looking...especially with fuel prices...id like something with a smaller, yet powerful engine...

karbonkraze 04-19-2005 12:41 PM

RE: New Admin

so what car do you have now.

Patrick 04-19-2005 06:20 PM

RE: New Admin

i have a 2002 dodge stratus RT coupe, modded...a 1992 bmw 525i, modded...an old beat up truck...and an old dodge that i drag race only...

XCM828 04-19-2005 07:52 PM

RE: New Admin

What kinda times you getting on that old beat up Dodge that you only drag?

RE: New Admin

last year it ran 12.60s with mufflers and DOTs...on 87 octane...but the engine is getting a bit tired..ive been making about 250 passes a year, at least for the last 5 years without breaking the engine down...so im getting some blow by now, and my valve springs are a bit tired..so new valve springs have been ordered...new rear dif gears...a new timing chain...new rings and bearings...my dad is an old race mechanic, so he built the motor when i was 16..so 10 years of street and track racing has taken its toll..it was making about 480hp last year with the worn springs, and late in the year, i broke a few rockers and pushrods during a run...ran a 14.70 @ 55 mph...[:@] its alot of fun..i run the other cars too, but they are MUCH slower...heres a picture of it...it isnt very beat my..my old truck is...

RE: New Admin

That's awesome. Hopefully after the rebuild, you'll be getting closer to the 11 range. What engine you got under the hood, and are you running any boost or nitro?

Patrick 04-21-2005 04:08 PM

RE: New Admin

i am natrually aspirated, low compression. i can actually build just shy of 500hp on 85 octane, but that is of octane is hard to find anymore...we would like to get around 11s...no nitrous yet, although i ran a sebring coupe in 4 cylinder class last year also and it was on the bottle...the owner of that car is building a turbo motor, so that nitrous setup wont work for him anymore..i may get it, but i dont know on which car....

XCM828 04-22-2005 06:51 PM

RE: New Admin

500hp on 85 octane. That's pretty damn good.

1fstmini 05-23-2005 11:58 PM

RE: New Admin

thats what im sayin.....im not gonna flame on but idk abt all that. why wouldnt you wanna run 104 or higher since you make can make more power with higher octane fuel. i know when i run my t-type on 94 and then on 104 i gain roughly 1/2 sec or more dependin on the temp of the day...... that pic looks like a granada than a 02 dodge stratus r/t to me sir

Patrick 05-25-2005 09:34 PM

RE: New Admin

thats not a Stratus RT, which should be pretty clear....and that granada is the 500+ hp car were talking about...

its the "old dodge" that i made reference to above. your post didnt make a world of sense, but i think what youre asking me is why wouldnt i run higher octane to make more power? just putting higher octane in a car doesnt make any more power. you have to have the compression ratio which can use the added octane. if you have a supercharged car, yes, more octane is better because you have very stiff compression, especially under heavy boost. on the other hand, i run 8.5:1 CR, so adding much higher octane only costs more, and doesnt improve the power. for now...its with my dad who built the motor right now, getting new seals and bearings, new valve springs, a new timing chain, new shoes..and 4.56 gears...the end result should be low 12s for now, and i will look into domed pistons, which will increase the CR to around 11:1, at which point i will run straight 120 octane, but for now, im havig fun with nice cheap gas. and my car with its cheap pump gas hurt alot of feelings last year on the national circuit. ;)

RE: New Admin

actually i have no clue why i did that....my b

Higher octane also prevents engine knocking. On the Cooper S models, you have to run 93 octane or more to prevent pre-ignition.

Patrick 05-27-2005 12:46 PM

RE: New Admin

correct...i should have specified why you 'have to run high octane"...do you guys know what your post forced induction compression is?

What do you mean? What is the stock boost the SC is from the factory? If so, its 11lbs.

Patrick 05-27-2005 11:25 PM

RE: New Admin

no no..the cylinder compression...for instance, a guy i pitted with last year had a 68 GTO with a 600 cubic inch engine with a top mount blower....it was 6:1 compression...but with the aide of his supercharger it is 18:1 compression..he runs 128 octane jet fuel, and without the nitrous, in a PA street legal vehicle, it builds 2200 horsepower...and it is one of the bicest looking cars ive seen..he spent some 15 years redoing it...everything under the hood is chromed...the paint is flawless inside and out, and the parts inside that arent painted inside are hand sown leather.

anyway, the compression ratio...i was wondering how high it is..it should be in the owners manual...

1fstmini 05-27-2005 11:28 PM

RE: New Admin

i think its 8.75:1 and not sure about full compression in boost

Patrick 05-28-2005 12:54 AM

RE: New Admin

wow..and they run 11 psi of stock boost...im surprised that it is that high..you guys all have to run high test in the S's right?

1fstmini 05-28-2005 11:03 AM

RE: New Admin

I do recommend 94 octane especially when you run my boost kit which puts out 15psi

Patrick 05-28-2005 05:19 PM

RE: New Admin

do you guys notice big gains of running a race type fuel?

1fstmini 05-28-2005 05:26 PM

RE: New Admin

Like i said b4 , i feel my t-type runs harder on 104 than on 91-94 octane. I wouldnt run the mini's on anything less than 91 octane ( 94 if you have it near you ) with the SC mini's and def when with a modded ones.

Patrick 05-28-2005 10:21 PM

RE: New Admin

i have tried a higher octane in the old dodge, but with the low compression, it literally runs no better, and 87 is nice and cheap

1fstmini 05-29-2005 05:19 AM

RE: New Admin

what are u runnin again for compression?

Patrick 05-29-2005 02:23 PM

RE: New Admin

about 8.5:1....

1fstmini 05-29-2005 07:33 PM

RE: New Admin

U def can go for some pistons to get thta compression up and ALOT more HP unless ur gonna run a turbo or SC.

Patrick 05-29-2005 11:23 PM

RE: New Admin

i know. we are going to work the car into the 11s with the low compression, then either buy big compression pistons, or work on a BB, which i already have...but i like having a big car with a little engine that is kind of fast.

1fstmini 05-29-2005 11:32 PM

RE: New Admin

i see what ur sayin.........i have a 86 t-type that came with a 231 v6 turbo and put some NOS on it and brought it to english town right after buyin it and blew the head clear off the motor. glad i saw a friend with a trailer up that day and also only brought one of his cars being the trailer holds 2 and got a ride home. Dropped a early 70's 400sb with a 2bolt main and did that up with a bigger shot on nos. i wasnt into the turbo thing and got the car even faster with the swap. now the car just sits in storage at my friends place cuz i have no time to finish it and get it out on the road again .

Patrick 05-30-2005 01:39 PM

RE: New Admin

my car is at home, on the trailer where it has been since last season when i broke three rocker arms during a run. i knew something was going wrong, but it was a money run and i tried to baby it through...i did win, but it caused quite a bit of damage, top end only. so i have left it with my father who is an engine builder, and he is freshening up the engine, and fixing the top end issues...also, i have moved, and we already have 4 vehicles, so there isnt much room right now for a car and trailer. RE: New Admin

If i had more space at my new place id have the car down here runnin.....last time i touched it was about 4yrs ago and was finishing a few things i redone and still needs the exhaust to be put back on. At one point i was selling it , but i couldnt give it up when people offered me the dough cuz the car runs hard. ill get it down here one day when i get more time.

Patrick 06-01-2005 06:07 PM

RE: New Admin

my car is fully drivable, but its a bit worn out...im losing a bit of compression and with the VERY tired valve springs im getting alot of rev with no power...it was running 12.80s late last season...but i had lost a consistant 2 tenth from earlier in the season...WITH mods...i thought at first that maybe the new parts were bad, so we swapped them out, and no change...also, 5mpg get a bit rough...

a neighbor has a T Type for sale..i keep meaning to stop and look at it...:)
