10 cooper s auto catastrophic failures
About two weeks ago, found a sweet deal on a 2010 mini Cooper S with 85,000 miles. Looked really clean, no external indications of problems looked very well-maintained.
I’ve had my son driving it back-and-forth to school, today it threw check engine light, stopped. Restarted, cleared CEL, kept going.
0300 multiple cylinder misfires was the error. I did some research and it looked likely to be the high-pressure fuel pump, so knowing that they had extended the warranty on that for some models, I took it to the dealership to have them check it out. He informed me it had not been extended for my model year and I authorized him to proceed with a thorough diagnostic.

He came back with a stack of papers of all the things that needed to be done. I’m looking for a little guidance. High-pressure fuel pump, cylinder head cover, vacuum pump, v-belt, shaft seal.
Obviously, I can check out the V-belt myself, it looks a little worn. Easy to replace. How do I know: A) Do all of these things really need to be done? B) with just the one code, how do they know all these things need to be done? C) is there a recommended order in which I should replace these items? It looks like the cheapest I can find everything it will be about $700 worth of parts.
Any advice those of you more steeped in mini knowledge than I might care to impart would be greatly appreciated.
