Hey W8tng...
My next MINI will be turbo-charged. I hoped to be a better-behaved driver (read: NOT drive like I'm in the Italian Job) with a base-model hatchback, but after a year of driving my wonderful base MINI, I admit I sometime wish for a little more oomph under the 'bonnet'.
So far so good for my 2011 MINI. No problems to report; it has been the best car purchase I have ever made. I have read alot about the discussion between reg tires and the run-flats--and I have to say that I would get the regular tires, rather than run flats, as the rfs are more expensive, and I understand not quite as pliable and grippy on the road on tight corners. And believe me, if you're driving a MINI, you're gonna LOVE diving into those tight corners ; )
So, in response to your question, I fear I haven't been much help. I would advise getting the 2011 S - haven't heard of any service issues with those (not that there aren't any, but haven't heard of any).
All the best!
