I'm planning to buy a 2009 Mini Cooper S 6 Speed Manual with 40-55k miles. I've test driven a couple Ss 2005-2009 so I know how it should ride, how fast it should be. But I still want to play it safe. Normally I would be bringing in a mechanic to inspect the car but since most of the minis I like are out of state, I would have to inspect it myself. What should I be looking for ? I have experience inspecting cars and all but I could use some pointers. What specific things should I be asking the dealer about the condition or maintenance of the car ? Any suggestions would help. Is there a way to tell if the car has been abused by the way the turbos spool (whether there is a lag) or anything ?

Is it a bad sign that the clutch has been replaced at 35k ? Does the 2009 S have a factory turbo timer ? Is there a way to tell if the chain is going bad ?

Help me out guys. I need some advised from experienced Mini owners. I've owned a twin turbo 300zx before and I know how expensive maintenance could get with a turbo car. So I want to be more careful...
