extended warranties etc

Just bought my first Mini in 45 years...great to have one again.
Question to those of you who know today's Mini.
Mine is an 04 has 28,000 miles on it and seems to be in great shape.
The original warranty runs out in January next.
They have been trying to sell me an extension to that....$1900 for two and half years and then a maintenace warranty another $1700, they thought that I should have one for my tires and rims also, and who knows possibly there's one to cover in the event of rainy Tuesdays!
The chap who earns his living to all appearances, exclusively from selling these insurance policies pointed out that the Mini was expensive to repair...said something about rotors and brake pads that would need doing and something about parts being expensive because shipped in from England.
Could some of you please square me away on some of this. I had hoped my local and very good mechanic would look after Mini, but if one look under the bonnet is going to blow him away...I suppose I have to think again?
I hope some of you are able to answer and enlighten me.
