extra piece on 2007 Mini dash ?????

Default extra piece on 2007 Mini dash ?????
I just bought a 2007 Mini. On the left of steering column, on the dash is a plastic piece with a wire going behind steering wheel.


Does anyone know what the plastic piece on the dash is used for? There is a wire attached to it.
