Hi guys :)

Hi guys,

I am a new member and have a 2002 Mini Cooper s. I want to do some track days and was wondering what tires are good for street and the track? It is sitting on 15in rims and was wondering if I would need to upgrade size or could I just get some tire.

Any advice is appreciated :)

Hi Grace111, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of really good tires out there that are superb for street/track. Just depends on how much you want to spend. I have the stock 17inch S-lite rims on lowered springs. You can still use your 15inch rims. You will have to get 195/50/15's so their not so thick. Less mass for spin so that will work. Bigger rims will be better though cuz they're wider though. So you can go either way. To answer your question about which brands are good you will have some debate on that one. Here are some brands you can look at. Yokohama, Toyo, Sumitomo, Kuhmo, Ecsta, Hankook, Pirelli and Dunlop just to name a few. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck on your choice. Keep us posted.

Hi hasty, I would check the timing chain and the head gasket.

EML light

Thank you for the advice. By the way, what does it mean when EML light is turned 'on'? :)

teamslam1 Apr 26, 2015 07:06 PM

Hi Hasty, EML light goes on when there's lost acceleration. Just reset the battery, your light should go off.

I've run quite a few and would highly recommend Toyo or Nitto if you plan to drive on the street with them. if not go with "R" compound slicks. here's a few links to my racing videos. feel free to pass them on to others!
