I am currently looking to purchase a 2012 Mini Cooper S (Hardtop). It is a used vehicle, 3 previous owners, and has 23,517miles on the odometer. The car appears well-kept and shows little signs of wear (in the interior, under the hood, and even the underside).

I am aware that there are problems with things such as the water pump (around 50,000mi) and the HPFP/fuel injectors. Is there a way to check if these problems have been addressed by using the VIN? Does MINI-USA keep record of the parts they are responsible for replacing under warranty? (i.e. water pump).

With this being said, I am going to test drive the vehicle this week and hopefully become a proud MINI owner.

Welcome to MINI Cooper Forums! That is some very low mileage for that R56. '12 is a good year because they have the N18 engines vs. the previous 2007-2010 N14's that are riddled with issues. The HPFP isn't as big of an issue as the N14's, but I have seen it happen more than a few times. So do keep an eye on it. You can call the dealer with your vin and they can pull up any maintenance history on the vehicle if it was done at the dealer. If the previous owner did work themselves or at an indy shop, there will be no records on it unless they provide you with them. If there was warranty work done, that will be on record when you call the dealer. Be sure to get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done at a shop that knows MINI's well.
