NEW MINI OWNER
Just purchased a 2006 Cooper S with the checkmate package and love it.Have never owned a mini and was wandering if there is anything I need to know about servicing the car.I am a diesel mechanic and pretty capable of repairing any problem but did not know if there is anything other than oil changes and regular upkeep that needs to be done. The car has 19,500 miles and enjoy the heck out of it.Any info would be greatly appreciated.....

Change the rectangle Air Filter often - it sucks up alot of dirt and affects gas mileage.
Buy a good KLH reusable filter.
Buy the large socket ($13.00) for oil canister in the 3/8 drive - worth it.
If uf really like the car - invest in a set of winter tires on separate winter (narrower) rims (Pep Boys special order).
Go down an inch in rim size and get a taller winter tire (Dunlop Wintersport 3).
The wide OEM tires are horrible in snow.
Ditch the Run Flats when time comes- again they are horrible. The car jerks around in truck grooves.
Invest in good summer tires - Brigdestones or Perillis ($130ish).
Half the price of Run flats. Buy can of green slime and join AAA for a tow if needed.
I love my mini -- good luck and Merry Christmas.

You won't need any service until 25,000 miles. When you first turn the car on it tells you exactly how far you have until that service is due on the tach. You're still very much in warranty so the service is free at any dealership. Congrats on the car.
