Default Thinking about a Mini

I'm at a point in my life where I want to trade my Toyota Tacoma pickup for a Mini. I drive less than 5,000 miles a year, exclusively around town in the Austin, Tx area, and want something that's fun to drive. I've been a fond follower of the Mini since the 1960's although I've never owned one. I test drove one a few weeks ago and, in addition to being cute as a button, they are a hoot drive. However, I'm also at a point in my life where I don't want a car that's going to be a constant source of ****ling mechanical problems like oil leaks, hard starting, etc. I get a sense from the internet that the Mini might just be a maintenance nightmare. Can folks from this forum weigh in on their experiences? All information, positive and negative is very much appreciated.
