My 2005 R50 cooper manual has developed a (new) noise. It's a rattle that seems to come from the left side of the engine, the noise is only present when accelerating/under load in gear, it more or less disappears once the car is up to speed and is not present when revving it in neutral or with the clutch depressed. The car is a high-miler (not uncommon here due to our sick 150% + 25% VAT car taxation) but I had the timing chain, guides, tensioners replaced a few years back as a preventive measure. The gearbox (Getrag) was replaced with a used one last year along with clutch and release bearing. Any ideas before I hit eBay to buy lots of s..t I don't really need?

Hey, did you figure out what was causing the noise? I have a Mini one from 2002 with the exact same problems. No one knows where this sound is coming from and I am not sure whether I should worry or not. Thanks!
