Default My Cooper is EATING my tires!!!

My Coop is eating the rear tires. They wear the inner 1 to 1.5 inches on the back tires. A mini owner told me this was a problem that most eventually have. He also mentioned something about some after market parts to correct the issue. Stating that the parts have something to do with the "toe in, toe out" part of allignment. Does any one have any clue what he was reffering to?? I have gone through 4 sets of tires in under 2 yrs.

I have noticed that when the car is on the alignment rack, the tires APPEAR aligned. Soon as it hits the ground and rolls a few feet, the tires appear to ride on the inner edges.

Yea, you are going to need to take it to a certified mini shop. I have never heard of this problem. I know people who have driven on the same tires for years with no damage or alignment problems. If your alignment is off - you may need to get that fixed before further damage occurs. That is the only thing that would shave the tires - when you are not in control

I have had the same problem with my tires. The alignment was looked at (not by a MINI dealer) and I was told that that was the way the car was designed and what I needed to do was rotate the tires every 3000 miles. That doesn't seem right to me but I don't know what the REAL problem is either so I've been rotating them every 3000.

Mini's COME with some negitive camber , that is to improve handling , if you are at the upper end of the specs it can cause excessive wear. Yes there are adjustable links
You don't state year/ect to give you parts ...
Also some mini's have had the rears axle supports tweaked and that can cause wear

Also be SURE to keep proper tire inflations ESPECIALLY with runflats.
Rotations are very important as well

Default tires

My 06 ate up tires. Was told they do that. I finally rotated the tires every 3000 miles and seen longer life span.

MINI does recommend tires be rotated every 3000 miles, have had it done religiously and have not had any problem with wear on either the original 16" RFT or the new 17" Conti's. Man I hated those RFTs!
