Default Brake job on my wifes car

Hi folks!
My wife has a 2004 mini coop. The brake pad sensor light is on, so I guess I need to change the brakes and pads. I took the front wheels off and her pads seem to be fine, but the rotors need to be replaced. So here are my questions.

1 Should I replace both the rotors and pads at the same time, or could I get away with replacing rotors only?
2 What size is the rotorretaining bolt? 32mm maybe??
3 Can i get the sensor light to go off in her car once I replace the rotors and pads, or do I HAVE to buy new sensors to install, and if so how many sensors do I need? (I haven't looked at the back yet)
4 I've seen mention of a special tool for compressing the rear pistons, but I have no idea what it is or where to buy. I can't get away with usingthe ol' vise?

Thanks for the help!!

You'll need a special tool for the rear, but you can get a universal one at Harbor Freight that works good. You'll need two sensors, front driver and rear passenger, and you'll need to replace whatever needs replacing, we can't tell you what you do and don't need to replace without looking at it.

I would be leary of replacing the rotors without replacing the pads. Might be OK, but you already have it apart, and why take a chance. Just my opinion.
