Default R56 timing chain

Hello folks,
I’m new to the forum
Just need some advice on replacing my timing chain on my 2008 Mini Cooper S
N14 engine
I’ve installed the new chain and guides but then I turned the engine Over by hand Hand twice and then put the cam locking tools back on the cams and then went to put the tool into the flywheel but it misses lining up with the flywheel by an 1/8 of an inch
Does the timing Have to be exact or is there any tolerance
I have not started the engine yet until I know it’s safe to do so

Thank you
