Default 2005 Mini Cooper Sport Mode?

Hi all! I recently bought a used Mini. I've had it about 2 weeks. Today I noticed on the display that it said "SD", so I looked it up in the manual. Apparently this is sport mode? Anyway, I've never seen it in anything else. Today briefly at around 90 mph it was in plain D mode, but for the most part it is in SD. It never says P, or N or anything else. When I push the shifter to the right, in manual shift mode or whatever, it does nothing. The light that says m/s is always on too. Pushing it plus or minus in this position changes nothing either. Is my car permanently stuck in "sport mode"? What can I do to make it go into normal drive mode? Or is this all normal?

Hi, my car has recently started doing the same thing. I am wondering if you ever found a solution?

Hi Elizabeth! I haven't really found a solution. I started checking electrical connections under the hood, and fuses there and in the kick plate in the driver's side. I must have done something, because it started coming out of sport mode on it's own. It still goes back to being stuck, but it's better now. I'm still trying to track it down, but I'm thinking it is something electrical. Yesterday, I was passing someone at around 80 mph, and pushed it into sport mode, and it got stuck there and hasn't come back out. I will make sure to post anything I find. I may end up taking it to a dealer.

I donít know if you have found a solution yet, but I took my car to the repair shop and they were able to fix the problem. The shifter was not able to ground individual circuits which is what was causing it to misread the selected gear. If you or the previous owner have ever spilled a soda on the shifter, that could be your problem as well. I got the shifter assembly replaced, and it is now working fine. Hope this helps!
