transmission fine so far ??
I have a 2004 automatic transmission mini with 71k miles. I was told by one party that the transmission oil was not to be changed for "life". And another place said to change every 30k miles. I am about to take it in to a mechanic and am worried that I could wake a sleeping giant. I have not had one single problem with this car.. In fact I love it. However if I change the oil will I create problems or help eliminate problems. I have only changed the motor oil every 5k and replaced the brakes. Am I lucky or just a late bloomer waiting for disaster to strike...

Now at 109k miles I just had to get a new radiator, arm bushings and they replaced the engine mounts. I had my family mechanic take care of those things since the dealer is pretty ridic $$

2002 cvt question
Have a 2002 with 130K and the cvt just failed. Can anyone tell me if a 2008 base cooper cvt would be compatible with my 2002? Some one is parting out a wreck and wants $1,500 for the cvt (good price)... Would it fit?

CVT transmission failure @ 75,000KM
Hi,
Sadly I am posting because my '05 Mini had the CVT transmission fail this week at a mere 75,000KM. Mini (BMW) Canada seem to think this is my burden to bare as it should be expected on a car seven years old (bought brand new and only ever serviced at dealerships).
Is anyone getting anywhere with head office in terms of compensation, replacement, even recognizing that there is some shared responsibility here?!? I love(d) my mini and I am still trying to make lemonade with this lemon but can't get far. Reading all of the forums on how common the problem is and how Mini/BMW is treating all of us has been very upsetting on top of dealing with an undrivable car.
Any advice, tips, tricks, etc would be appreciated. Thanks!
