Default Hi. I'm new here. Some questions

I just bought my daughter a decent 2004 Mini with auto trans. We've noticed that the driver's window tends to blow outward at speed, and make quite a howling noise. I'm trying to determine the warranty status of this car (it was a former rental)... but is this a fairly common problem with a simple solution?

Can any BMW dealer provide service and warranty work (assuming I still qualify), or do I have to go to an exclusive Mini dealer?

Thnaks for helping a noob.

Should be able to take it to a bmw dealer unsure about USA though. Have a look as to whether the drivers window lowers when you open the door and rises back into the seal when the door is closed. Try with the door closed, opening the window all the way then closing it and holding the window switch in the up position for five more seconds. This should reset the windows and hopefully get it to raise into the seal.

Straff,

Thanks for the reply. The window raises and lowers about 3/8" when the door is opend and closed. Pretty clever. I made an appt for tomorrow at the Mini dealer to have the car checked over for possible warranty work (before the warranty expires), an oil change, and to be sure all past recalls are handled.

Cool I imagine that the window not rising is your problem thereby causing the window to bend outwards at speed as not properly sealed

See what BMW say and definitely get it fixed under warranty, remember if they fix it and then it comes back quickly they must honor it as they were supposed to fix it first time even if out of warranty

Straff,

The window seems to raise and lower properly... my guess its the actual weather-strip seal... its at the Mini dealer now to fix that and a general look-over and test drive (since I'm unfamiliar with these cars). The service advisor said that the AT is a CVT type... is that correct? I can feel it chnage gears (I thought). Hmmmm.

My daughter will want some black or gray stripes for the hood... is there a good aftermarket source for them?

The dealer just called... the drivers window just needed an adjustment to close a little tighter! Everything else checks out fine. Yehaw.

Straff,

Thanks for the link. I also found some simple black stripes on eBay... I did a search for "mini cooper stripe" and found front and rear for around $20. I'm waiting to see if the seller will respond to my email (its my simple test for a legitimate seller). So far... bupkis.
