Just bought a '02 R50 for dirt cheep, 900 bones, yeah, and it runs. Had to put about $1600 into it to make it really road worthy. Now my fear is that the bearings in the tranny are going out or it's just planning to strand me one day, soon. Main questions are:
#1 - How easy is it to rebuild the existing trans?
#2 - or should I just swap with a 6 speed?
From what I've read over other forums and sights, the swap is a nightmare and costly. I want to keep this my daily driver till I get my kids through teaching them how to drive the manual, then mod it, we're talking 10 plus years form now. I want to find a parts car and just rebuild the trans but getting one with the same options, Canadian Launch Edition ( not sure if that makes a difference in the trans or not) and all but seems like that shouldn't matter. Still not really sure what type of trans it has. Still doing research on it.

Any advice will help.
