Default when should I replace my timing belt..?

Hi,

I am new to this forumand own an '04 Cooper and love it.

I never had any problems with it, but my warranty just ended and dealer is a rip off...
The mini currently has 64kmiles on it, and dealer tells me that its do for a major service and wants $870 for it.

He says that i need to service the transmission (automatic), timing belt, water pump and etc...

I thought that T-Belt is not do until 90k???

What do I need to do now and where should I go for the service.?

I live in southern O.C. area and always used Irvine Mini, but they are a rip off.

I absolutely have no problems at this with the car but want to avoid issues in the future.

Please help.....

thanks

I do believe the mini has a timing chain instwad of a timing belt, and it should last indefinately. The serpentine accessory belt does wear out though. A friend lost his at around 50,000 miles, which is probably a bit of a fluke. They should last longer than that, but I will change mine at 50 to 60,000 miles just to be safe..

funny the dealer told you to get the CVT auto serviced - they are listed as "lifetime" fills by MINI.

having said that - i'd get it serviced - we are about to get mine serviced as soon as we find a reliable person to service it here in B'ham.
